Don't Take 2 Minute Noodles on a Hike!

But why not? Lets look at the nutritional value of a packet of 2 minute noodles!
Protein 8g
Carbohydrate 51.4g
Energy 397 cal
Fibre 2.5g
Total Weight 85g
Compared to a pre-purchased good quality dehydrated meal (this one is Mexican Beef Chilli):
Protein 22g
Carbohydrate 35g
Energy 409 cal
Fibre 19g
Total Weight 80g
So why does it make a difference? The protein value of the meal is almost 3 times that of the noodles. Protein is required for muscle repair and as we use our muscles a lot when we hike it is really great to eat a good quality, protein rich meal. The meal also contains a variety of vegetables providing minerals and vitamins, whereas the noodles are just noodles, they are mostly carbohydrates with little fibre or protein. The meals, if you select a good quality manufacturer, are specifically designed to keep you going on the trail - to be honest I'm not entirely sure what 2 minute noodles are designed for, but if you want energy and a healthy meal, the noodle option isn't it!
